Okay, I get the whole 2012 the world is going to end thing (even though that is NOT what the Mayan calendar says at all, hint, it's supposed to start over, not end entirely). The movie was pretty good, I enjoyed it. It was pretty clean and there wasn't a ton of swearing, but I hope that our government leaders aren't as stupid as the ones in the movie.
Heres the story: (If you don't want me to ruin the movie, stop reading.)
They find out in the beginning of the movie that the world is going to end, well not the world exactly, but because of catastrophes that are bound to happen, the human race will pretty much be annihilated. Irreversibly. (That should go without saying, but I wanted the chance to say irreversibly.)
The first people to find out about this go directly to the government, because everyone knows they always have a plan. What does the government do? They keep it a secret and start working on a way to save "as many as possible." The only thing is, they only saved a very small number in the end and if the world really were to undergo such an event, there is a better way—pretty much the opposite of what they did—but it was a movie and if they had followed my plan the movie probably would have been as good as it was.
But that doesn't change the fact that it was a bad plan. What should they have done? It's easy. If the government keeps it a secret then the only people that can help save the human population are the people you tell and the people you hire, but what happens when you tell everyone? Well, then everyone can help save the world.
Tell me the truth, if the president of the United States broadcasted that the Earth as we know it was going to be annihilated don't you think you'd be willing to do a little work on an ark or something that would save your life? Lets face it, there are a lot of jobs that are completely pointless when you realize that the world is about to end, those people would quit their jobs and help build big boats. A lot of people would be able to keep their jobs and assit in other ways. And most, if not all, of the human race can be saved.
Gee, I hope that they haven't already discovered that the world is going to end and have already started to do the wrong thing...
I think that people would deny his warning to the point that only half the boats were built, and those would leak.
