I'd like you to imagine a road. This road is as straight as an arrow with not even the slightest curve. Everyone who has ever driven on a straight road knows how easy it is. You don't have to turn the steering wheel at all.
Now I'd like you to imagine a car driving down this road—but driving straight is too boring—in fact, why should the car follow the road at all? The car carves its own path. It first takes a sharp turn in one direction, and then U-turns and crosses the road. When the car is on the other side of the road it U-turns again, and so it continues.Seems pretty silly, huh?
Well, this is my analogy of politics. It seems that we are constantly going back and forth across a figurative road. The average conglomerate of the American People (the road) have in mind to go straight. When one of our elected officers leads us far in one direction, we elect someone new to steer us back straight, but the new officer doesn't steer us straight, he steers us too far to the other direction. It's a vicious cycle.
I do not wish to say that I have anything against the current administration. In fact, I approve of many of the things that President Obama is trying to do (though not everything). It is frustrating to see, however, the back and forth that goes on in our government. It is important to note that the road is abused by BOTH parties, not just the Democrats, not just the Republicans, both parties. It seems that if the two would cooperate that we would be heading on a more correct course. As it is, it seems that the two sides are bickering in a violant tug-o-war. Each side have their hands firmly on one half of the delicate fabric of the constitution. As the two side pull, the fabric tears and unravels. Soon enough, all that will be left will be a single thread.
Great analogy... and I so agree!
ReplyDeleteOnly one problem with your analogy, for the last say 15 years, there need to be circles instead of actual progress being made. Or maybe some of those would backtrack down the road while going from side to side.
